The Smell of Fear!

Well, it wasn't enough for us to be scared of dying from malaria, hepatitis, or typhoid fever.....or lions, hippos, and water buffalo.....or even mosquitoes, parasitic water, and uncooked food. We wanted to find something more exciting over here in Africa to kill us!

So we signed up to zip line across the Batoka Gorges high above the Zambezi River (Jenesa made me do it!).

This is the longest Zip Line ride in the world.  Imagine traveling a speed of 60mph hurtling 425 m across the gorge, while suspended 120 m above the breath taking beauty of the Zambezi water below!

Unbeknownst to us....just a few months ago someone bungee jumped off the Zambezi bridge (pictured in the distance, see above photo)  and the rope snapped.  I repeat....the rope snapped!!!  So anyone who cannot contemplate how scary this might be from our blog pictures can check out the following bungee jump clip from YouTube that proves my point.  This is some scary %@$%#.

I will admit that I thought I might die before I even zipped!  The launch platform was nothing more than this pathetic looking thing.  Now, picture yourself standing on it and looking straight down into the gorge with NOTHING TO HOLD ONTO!

Jenesa was enjoying every minute of it.  I eventually forced a smile for the camera before we jumped....but Jenesa could smell my fear (and it didn't smell like roses!).  Let's just get this over with!

We signed up to do a tandem zip line....so in case of an accident, we'd both go down together! How romantic, right? It was a 500ft. adrenaline rush all the way across the gorge and up the other side. I never knew I could hold my breath that long!

That's us in the photo!  Thanks to our Canadian friends we can continue to relive every exciting second of this adventure.  Or not!  I'm just glad there won't be a YouTube video of the Leonard's in the middle of the Zambezi River.  We made it back safely....but I'm still holding on for dear life!

Corbie, you are very brave! There is no way I would have done that. At least you didn't know about the bungee cord breaking before you zip lined. I finally got time to read through your blog. Kaylee is keeping me pretty busy. It looks like you are having an amazing time. The elephant ride looked really fun. Did you see any Rhodesian Ridgebacks yet?

I think you should have done this while at the falls. Corbett would have needed a bathroom!
