Kruger National Park

On this trip we are scheduled for three game drives through the National Park.  The whole purpose of these safari's is to spot the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino).  The term “Big Five” originally referred to the difficulty in hunting the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and African buffalo. These five large African mammal species were known to be dangerous and it was considered a feat by trophy hunters to bring them home.

Let the games begin!

Out of bed at 4:30am and at Kruger's gates at 6.....we basically opened the park at sunset!

Our tour guide told us to dress for some "fresh" weather!  In Pennsylvania terms....that means damned cold!!!  Jenesa and I layered with everything we packed....and we still felt the chill down our backs throughout the drive.  I did my best to hold the camera and avoid the sssssssshhhhhhhakes!

We were spoiled rotten during our morning drive.  We managed to nab 4 of the 5 Big Boys....not to mention lots of other game!  It was incredible....some of these animals were right beside our touring Land Rover.....and we were warned to remain quiet and stay seated!
