Jenesa and I managed to wake up from our jet lag early Monday afternoon. Our Gate 1 Travel tour does not begin until Wednesday morning....leaving us to find things to do on our own around Johannesburg. It was recommended we check out Sandton City - dinner, shopping, and a movie.
Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton City is modeled after a European-style piazza.....one of the largest open public spaces in the country of South Africa. It includes sidewalk cafes, some of the finest restaurants in the country, and 3-stories of luxury shopping.
Jenesa and I wanted to try some African food(s) for dinner. The Butcher Shop had just what we were looking for! Jenesa wound up ordering an Ostrich fillet and I decided to taste the "Game of the Day" which was Kudu (African antelope). The Butcher Shop uses "Aged Meat"....which is hung in carcass for up to 3 days. Then, the Rump, Sirloin, Fillet, Rib-Eye, T-Bone, and Prime Rib are "Wet Aged" for approximately 21 days. Not sure what all that means....but it was delicious! And, it only took 15 minutes to scarf it all down! Dinner cost us $498 Rand.....you do the math!
After dinner, we shopped til we dropped....then caught a late movie before returning to the hotel. Tomorrow we're heading to the Gold Reef City theme park/casino.....and the Apartheid Museum.
